God the Son
The second panel represents God the Son, Jesus Christ, as He was during the season of Eastertide, when only those who believed could see Him. There are no roundelays on this panel for Scripture tells us that "the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy” (Rev. 19:10).
Jesus said, "I am the door." We see a door with a keyhole so that Peter and we ourselves will be reminded to use the keys of the kingdom of heaven (binding that which is of the devil and then loosing that which is of God).
In the foreground is a rooster crowing over an open tomb. A rooster's crowing was an integral part of Jesus' prophecy that Peter would deny Him thrice before the morrow. Roosters still crow at the crack of dawn, and people continue to deny Christ and His teaching.
Inside the tomb is a fish ... but without an eye. Using a fish as a symbol for a Christian, this fish represents any Christian who has not yet seen the Risen Lord because he's looking for life in places where death dwells.
At the top of this panel can be seen the feet of the Risen Lord in outline only. During Eastertide Jesus was not standing still with His feet together and hands raised bestowing benevolence, as is often imagined. He was on the go, coming and going, eating meals, even barbecuing breakfast on the beach! Here the Lord is walking with purpose to accomplish all that remains to be done before He goes up to Heaven.
