The
Four Corners
In the upper left‑hand corner is a leather‑skin bottle containing tears. Many times I have addressed the living God with a heartfelt cry like King David's:
Thou hast taken account of my wanderings.
Put my tears in Thy bottle; are they not in Thy book (Ps. 56:8).
The upper right‑hand corner represents the reward one receives for spending time reading and studying Holy Scripture.
“The unfolding of Thy words gives light” (Ps. 119:130).
In the lower right‑hand corner are two tears, one of them dry (if that is possible!) and the other one wet, which you can tell by following the light blue quilting stitches down until you see the splash below.
“I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears;
Behold, I will heal you” (2 Kings 20:5).
To the artist’s eye the shape of the flame closely resembles a comma or quotation mark. In the lower left‑hand corner is a representation of Pentecost with a flame overhead, as it were, and words coming out of the mouth!
And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit was giving them utterance (Acts 2:3-4).
